Christine Koh is a former neuroscientist who has been operating this blog independently since 2006. She is passionate about content and wants to provide you with information you care about. She also cares deeply about your privacy, both from her experience in neuroscience (where she underwent HIPAA training and IRB protocols that helped her develop an enhanced awareness about the importance of protecting people's personal information) and also just generally as a human being who loathes being added to e-mail lists without consent and also loathes other shady Internet data practices.
Here are the primary ways that your information may be connected to this site:
- Mailing list: Boston Mamas never adds people to the mailing list without their explicit consent. From Day 1 mailing list add-ons have been opt-in only. Originally newsletter opt-ins were collected through a service called Your Mailing List Provider, but now Boston Mamas uses Mailchimp. Every e-mail offers an easy mechanism to unsubscribe if you are no longer into us (though we hope that isn't the case!).
- Comments: If you leave a comment on a blog post, you provide data (e.g., e-mail address) so we can respond directly if necessary. We receive e-mail notifications about comments but once we address the comment, we delete those e-mails.
- Direct e-mails: If you e-mail us directly or submit via our contact form you are submitting your e-mail to us through that process. But as mentioned above, we never will add you to our newsletter because you e-mailed us about something else!
- Google Analytics + Squarespace metrics: Boston Mamas is hosted on Squarespace and has a Google Analytics account. To be perfectly candid, Christine Koh is not even super savvy at looking at these metrics and simply accesses the metrics periodically so she can understand how to provide the best possible user experience on the site (e.g., what people are looking for when they arrive at Boston Mamas).
There are some other technical possibilities that are detailed in the legal verbiage below. Please feel welcome to read these details and don't hesitate to contact email@example.com if you have any questions. But in a nutshell, Christine Koh's motives with Boston Mamas are simple (she loves providing great content!) and she will never sell your data or use it in shady ways. (Quite frankly, she doesn't even know how to go about doing shady things with Internet data.)
