My Favorite Things: Spring Edition

So there’s the thing: I love recommending my favorite things. And a lot of people ask me where I get my favorite things when I just post randomly on Instagram or wherever. But ever since I became obsessed with auditing/cleaning up this website (an ongoing project I started over a year ago!), I have not wanted to do standalone blog posts on my favorite things, because as items go out of stock, the blog posts for those items become irrelevant, and then make for a frustrating user experience. And I hate frustrating user experiences! (Sorry, this is more of a window into Internet publisher life than you might have wanted but it’s relevant to today’s post!)

So the other day, I thought to myself, why not do a quarterly seasonal roundup of my favorite things…and each year I’ll just wipe the blog post clean and start again? I thought about making it a monthly feature but some months I barely shop, and also I didn’t want to start a new feature here with a lot of pressure. So welcome to my first spring edition of favorite things! As you’ll see it’s a varied collection spanning education, kitchen, beauty, and fashion items. I hope I help you discover some fun, wonderful, and useful things! This was really fun to put together and I’m already curious about what I might discover this summer, fall, and winter!

In some—but not all—cases, affiliate links are used. This means that if you shop the links, I will get a (really small) referral benefit, though this happens at no cost to you! Affiliate revenue helps me continue to provide free content to you guys, so thank you for supporting the site through your shopping!

Revlon ColorStay Brow Pencil ($4.65)

So I only learned recently that eyebrow definition is important and OMG look at the difference 5 seconds of eyebrow pencil and brushing makes! These are two different photos but on the right, I used the Revlon ColorStay Brow Pencil + Brush on my eyebrows (literally, I just read the instructions on the back) + MoxieLash magnetic lashes featured later on in this post. I cannot believe how much more awake and finished I look!

Hask Monoi Coconut Oil 5-in-1 Leave-In-Spray ($7.99)

My hair gets dry and I have lots of flyaways so after I use a curling iron, I typically work some hair oil through my hair. But then I'm left with oily hands. BLECH. I recently bought this Hask Monoi Coconut Oil 5-in-1 Leave-In-Spray and love it. It smells awesome and it detangles, hydrates and conditions, softens and shines, controls frizz, and provides thermal protection. I spray it on my curled hair, and lightly run my hands through my hair to smooth down flyaways.

Prisoners of Geography ($11.55)

I read a ton of books (and I'm actually working on setting up my new Amazon store to include all my favorite reads). And while typically my preference is for novels, I cannot even begin to tell you how much Prisoners of Geography: Ten Maps That Explain Everything About the World by Tim Marshall has BLOWN MY MIND. History and geography have always been weak spots for me, and this book has expanded my understanding of both through really approachable and engaging writing. THANK YOU, TIM MARSHALL and I seriously think every human being needs to read this book.

Picture Play E-book ($19)

I am totally a paper book girl, but I finally bought my first e-book because of Jill Krause's Picture Play e-book. Jill is a brilliantly talented friend and as soon as I learned about her e-book, I bought it! It's loaded with super helpful photo editing tips, and I use tips from this book pretty much every day...whether it's making pesky wire lines disappear to enhancing the light on a photo.

Joseph Joseph Adjustable Rolling Pin ($19.99)

I asked for and received this adjustable rolling pin for Christmas but I only busted it out a couple of weeks ago when I made iced woodland critter cookies with Violet and OMG GAME CHANGER! The size guides ensure your dough is rolled to the perfect thickness, which meant that Violet could also help with the rolling! Thank you British Baking Show; that's where I first saw people using adjustable rolling pins!

My American Values Tote Bag ($20)

My dear friend Isabel Kallman gifted me this Emily McDowell My American Values tote. I want to be dear friends with Emily McDowell too; her whole shop is amazing.

Korean Face Mask Set ($24)

I love home face masks! I bought this Korean face mask set from Paper Source and love it!

Smash The Patriarchy t-shirt ($26)

Yeah, yeah, this is my own product but seriously, of all of the designs at Brave New World Designs, this Smash The Patriarchy design is the one that I wear ALL THE TIME.

Old Navy White Pull-on Jeggings ($29)

So basically ever since pulling together this roundup on incredibly comfortable pants and jeans and discovering Old Navy pull-on jeans, all I want to wear is pull-on jeans. In fact, all I do wear is pull-on jeans; it's high time to just donate all of my jeans that have buttons and zippers. I bought a pair of these white pull-on jeggings and loved them so much that I ordered a second pair as backup for summer (and in case Violet smears chocolate all over a pair).

Harper Wilde Bras ($40)

I learned about Harper Wilde because they sponsored the Edit Your Life podcast and you guys, I am OBSESSED. This is a woman-owned company and these bras are simple but so clever! They are comfy, have the adjustable element on the front so you’re not twisting around to get a perfect fit, can convert to racerback, and the x design in the front makes it so you can twist and nestle the cups for easy packing. I am just waiting for the everyday push up to come back in stock in beige (I have it in black and love it) and then I am buying a full fleet of these bras. They also give you prepaid shipping to send back all your old, crappy bras for recycling!

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation ($43)

I started using Make Up For Ever Ultra HD foundation a while back (it was recommended by a makeup artist friend) but I was reminded just last week of why it needs to be included in this roundup. I was coming off a long day of travel (I had been up since 4am to fly to New Jersey for a speaking engagement) and was heading back to Boston around 5:30pm. When I asked where the check-in kiosks were, a female staffer told me then said, "Your complexion is AMAZING." Dudes, I had been up since 4am. It was the foundation doing the work. I use Y315 but I recommend going to Sephora and having them use their little skin read gadget to figure out the perfect shade for you.

New Balance Captivate Collection ($49.99-$89.99)

My friends at New Balance recently sent me a few things from their Captivate Collection and I gotta say I am loving the whole performance + luxe styling situation. I actually am wearing the bra, tank, and tights + the Fresh Foam Roav (hooray for the aluminum + champagne metallic colorway!) right now, and I was feeling the athleisure vibe when I took Violet to the pediatrician this morning.

FabFitFun Subscription Box ($49.99)

I first learned about FabFitFun subscription boxes because they sponsored my Edit Your Life podcast and OMG NOW I AM OBSESSED! These quarterly kits are loaded with full-size beauty products as well as other lifestyle items (and you can customize some of the picks on order). The quarterly box is only $49.99 but it's loaded with $200 worth of product. They also offer an option to gift a box to a friend, which I think is the most delightful thing ever!

Moxielash Starter Kit ($79)

I have sparse eyelashes and have tried EVERYTHING. Over the years I have probably blown about $300 (eek) on fancy lash growth serums and at least $100-200 more over time at the drugstore on various adhesive and magnetic eyelash brands, all of which were IMPOSSIBLE to get on. I just realized that part of the reason the two-part magnetic lashes never worked for me is because I literally don't have enough lash for the two-part magnetic lashes to hang on to! Enter, MoxieLash. When I was at Mom 2.0 Summit I won a MoxieLash kit and OMG LIFE CHANGED. I tried them out just the other week and they literally took seconds to apply; just use the magnetic eyeliner and pop the lashes on. I couldn't believe it! If you want to get $10 your order, you can use this referral code!

Jumpsuits ($89.97 and up)

Y’all this was the season I officially discovered how amazing jumpsuits are. I will refer you to this roundup of 10 badass dressy jumpsuits I recently shared. In that collection, I feel like this Margaret Belted Jumpsuit from Anthrologie is an amazing starting point if you’re not ready for full on color.

Athleta Skinny Pant ($108)

I have been on the road a ton this spring and the thing that has saved me is a pair of Athleta skinny pants...no joke, basically every leg of every flight I wore the same pair of Athleta skinny pants! The Siena skinny pants I own look like they are on their way out but the comparable current model looks like the Wander Stash Skinny Pant. They basically look like work pants but feel like yoga pants. BEST THING EVER.

Sheila Corkery Silver Pebble Ring ($125)

My dear friend Sheila Corkery is an incredibly talented designer and a few years ago I got in the habit of visiting her and buying something from her every year at open studios. I just recently bought a few smaller pieces at her spring open studios to gift to friends (they all loved the items!) but I wanted to call out her amazing pebble ring. I wanted to buy my sister Stephanie something special for her birthday and I was so in love with this ring that, well, I bought myself a twinsie one.

Travelpro Maxlite 5 Carry-On Rollaboard Luggage ($129.99)

I am REALLY committed to carry-on. In fact I wrote an entire post full of tips on how to pack carry-on only! But for some reason I spent several years borrowing Jon's carry-on, which I loved because it's super lightweight. Finally he was like, "Uh, hello. You travel way more than I do...perhaps you should get your own luggage?" This spring I bought this Travelpro Maxlite 5 Carry-On Rollaboard Luggage, which is basically the same model as Jon's but I bought it in this pretty dusty rose color so now it stands out from the sea of black carry-ons in the overhead bins!

Boden Lily Espadrille Wedges ($150)

How happy are these rainbow espadrilles? When I first posted a photo wearing them, people FREAKED OUT.

Boden Rosalie Heels ($180)

Another epic addition to my shoe collection this spring is these gorgeous Boden Rosalie heels. I am no longer willing to wear pointy heels but these stacked heels are comfortable and this chalky pink color is such a fantastic neutral. You can see how I wore them here.
