10th Birthday Giveaway: Simon Malls!
Man, malls have come a long way! When I was a kid, my sisters and I hung out at a mall whose anchors were a gloomy arcade and a low-budget department store (and everything in between was pretty forgettable!). Now we’ve got access to malls where the locations are bright, pretty, and loaded with great retail options, whether you’re back to school shopping or updating your own closet.
It occurs to me that there have been two other mall evolution turning points since my days burning quarters on Pac-Man at the aforementioned mall of my youth. First, the food! While yes, you can still go grab a quick bite at a food court, if you want to sit down for a nicer meal it’s now easy to do that. Personally, I’ve had multiple tasty outings at the Burlington Mall’s Besito Mexican, Blue Stove, and Legal Sea Foods -- whether I’m meeting someone for a meal or am also planning on shopping. And the second turning point is that many malls now offer periodic family-friendly programming (as well as ladies’ night out type events). Serious wins all around!
